INTRODUCTION
The Department of Endocrinology is a super-specialty unit dedicated to the diagnosis and management of hormonal and metabolic disorders affecting people of all ages — from children to adults. Hormones influence nearly every function in the body, and even small imbalances can have far-reaching effects on health, growth, and quality of life. Our department brings together expert clinical care, evidence-based treatment protocols, and a patient-centered approach to help individual.
The department of Endocrinology is a superspeciality department, which deals with all kinds of hormonal problems involving endocrine glands. The Endocrinology OPD service is rendered through Endocrinology clinic and Diabetes clinic. The diabetic clinic caters exclusively to diabetic patients while the endocrinology clinic caters to all other hormonal problems which include-
PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)
Obesity and its management
Osteoporosis
Adrenal disorders
Thyroid and Parathyroid disorders
Infertility
Recurrent renal stone evaluation
Pituitary gland problem like Acromegaly, Prolactinoma, Cushing disease
In Pediatric and adolescent clinic, we deals with problems of children like-
Short stature
Pubertal disorders
Childhood obesity
Type IDM
DSD (disorder of sex development)
Metabolic bone disease (Rickets, Osteomalacia)
The department runs 7 clinic every week-New Endocrine cases-twice/week, Follow up Diabetic clinic-twice/week, Follow up Endocrine clinic-twice/week, Pediatric and Adolescent follow up clinic along with young onset diabetes(onset < 25 years)-once /week. Patients are referred from Delhi and adjoining states. Patients are also referred from CGHS & MCD dispensaries of Delhi & NCR, polyclinics, Railways, ESI & BSF hospitals & also private places.

SERVICES
Patient/ Community Care:
OPD Service (7 clinics per week):
New Endocrine Cases (two days/week)
Pediatric & Adolescent, Young onset Diabetes (one day/week)
Follow up Diabetic clinic (two days/week)
Follow up Endocrine clinic (two days/week)
IPD Services: 20 bedded IPD (catering to both diabetic and all endocrine cases)
Lab services:
Following Endo lab services are provided for both OPD & IPD patients:
Blood glucose (fasting and PP), RBG by glucometer, HbA1c, GCT, GTT, Urine ketone, urine microalbumin, serum &urine osmolarity.
Hormonal assays are being done in Lab Medicine (Pathology department). Imaging facilities including DEXA is being done as provided with the help of Radiology department. Nuclear facilities are also provided with the help of Nuclear department.
Community services:
Dietary advice- For all diabetic patients attending both diabetic & endocrine clinic, dietary advice is given according to the individual’s calorie requirement.
Counselling-
For all diabetic patients taking insulin, insulin injection technique is explained on individual basis and reinforced on regular basis. Diabetic patients, particularly type 1 diabetic patients on insulin, counselling for home monitoring of blood glucose done.
Lifestyle change advice- all diabetic and obese patients and their first degree relatives are counselled regarding lifestyle changes.
Foot care advice-for diabetic patients with diabetic foot ulcer/those having foot at risk and Physiology department runs foot lab which is used for adequate foot care.
Counselling for patients with hypogonadism, primary/secondary infertility, patients/parents of patients with disorders of sexual differentiation (DSD), and transgender individuals.

The department celebrates world diabetes day every year.

Teaching and Training-
Undergraduate teaching Programme – Under graduate lecture classes are being taken according to the roster.
Postdoctoral teaching programme - DrNB (Endocrinology) course with proper academic schedule is running since 2019. Currently 8 students are being trained.
Achievements and Awards
One DrNB student Dr. Nitesh Kumar (passed in 2022) has received Gold Medal.
One DrNB student Dr. Preety Solanki (batch 2023) has secured 3rd position in E-poster (original search) category titled “Postoperative weight gain in patients of craniopharyngloma at tertiary care centre”.
One DrNB student Dr. Pooja Ghuge (batch 2025) has secured 3rd position category titled “Primary Adrenal Tuberculosis presenting as Addisonian crisis: A diagnostic challenge in an immunocompetent patient” during the “ENDO-CONNECT 2026” held at Andaz Aerocity Delhi from 23rd-24th May 2026.
